Wolfgang Uhlmann, E. Germany, is setting the pace in the Stockholm Inter-Zonal tourney of the world championship series with 7-2 points, ahead of Dr. M. Filip, Czechoslovakia, 6½-2½. Bobby Fischer, USA, has 6-1 and an adjourned game. Lajos Portisch, Hungary, is fourth with 6-3, followed by S. Gligoric, Yugoslavia and P. Benko, USA, 5½-3½ each. The four Russian grandmasters are lagging behind the leaders, Petrosian, 5-3, Korchnoi, 4½-3½, Geller, 4½-4½, and Stein, 3½-4½. Only the first six advance to the Candidates tourney scheduled for Curacao, Dutch Antilles, this May and June. The winner plays a match for the title in 1963.
Canada's Dan Abe Yanofsky, Winnipeg, is doing as well as can be expected in this galaxy with wins from Uhlmann and Benko, losses to Bolbochan, Argentina; Filip and Portisch, and draws against Bertok, Yugoslavia; Teschner, E. Germany, and M. Aaron, India, for a 3½-4½ score and 14th place in the 23-player group.
