Willemstad, Curacao—(AP)—Soviet grandmaster Tigran Petrosian and 19-year-old Bobby Fischer of the United States calmly played to a draw Saturday night as other contestants in the international candidates chess tournament battled against time limits.
Fischer and Petrosian ended their 20th-round match after 23 moves of a queen's gambit. The match concluded with both players possessing equal pieces.
The remaining three matches were similar in at least one respect—players had to battle both their opponents and the clock to gain decisions.
Pal Benko of the United States lost to Paul Keres of the Soviet Union when he overstepped the time limit on his 38th move. Keres leads the competition.
Victor Korchnoi of the Soviet Union and Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia adjourned their game after 47 moves after English match opening.
In the only other match Ewfim Geller of the Soviet Union adjourned his match against fellow countryman Mikhail Tal with Geller holding a probable winning position.
