Keres Again Leads In Chess At Curacao
Willemstad, Curacao, June 10—Paul Keres of the Soviet Union took the lead once again in the Candidates' Chess Tournament by winning his twentieth-round game from Pal Benko of the United States in a Sicilian Defense going thirty-eight moves.
Keres put up a resourceful defense in a complicated position favoring his opponent, when Benko overstepped the time limit and was forfeited.
One other game was finished in this round and two adjourned. Tigran Petrosian of the Soviet Union and Bobby Fischer of the United States drew a Tartakover Variation of the Queens Gambit in twenty-three moves after exchanges forced an equal ending.
The game between Ewfim Geller and Mikhail Tal, both of the Soviet Union, a Sicilian Defense going to forty-four moves, was adjourned with Geller having an extra pawn and good winning chances.
Victor Korchnoi of the Soviet Union and Dr. Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia adjourned an English Opening after forty-seven moves. When play was suspended, Korchnoi was a pawn down, but had more than adequate compensation in a passed pawn which is expected to gain a rook.
