World chess chances
With eight rounds to go in the world chess tournament, the chance of a title match with Botvinnic lies between Keres, with 13½ points, Geller, 12½ and one adjourned, and Petrosian, 12 and one adjourned. Both Geller and Petrosian should win their unfinished games.
Bobby Fischer's faint hope of catching the leaders was eliminated when he blundered while in a good position against Korchnoi and adjourned with a lost ending.
In round 19, Keres drew with Geller, Benko adjourned with Petrosian, Fischer adjourned with Korchnoi, and Filip drew with Tal. In round 20, Keres beat Benko, Petrosian drew with Fischer, Korchnoi adjourned with Filip, and Geller adjourned with Tal.
Easily the most exciting game was between Keres and Benko, where Keres fell into a trap which gave the American a fierce attack. Benko missed several chances and finally lost on the time limit in a drawn position.
