When Bobby Fischer made that exclamation after completing two rounds of the Candidates tourney at Willemstad, Curacao, he was not rejoicing that he had played a whale of a game. Far from it. He had just unexpectedly lost both games to Paul Benko, USA and Ewfim Geller, USSR. Whatever his chances are now to become the official challenger for a title match with M. Botvinnik next year he at least has the consolation of knowing that his chief rival, ex-world champion Mikhail Tal, faces a similar uphill fight, having also lost both his opening games! To Paul Keres and Tigran Petrosian. As each player has 28 games to play in the quadruple round-robin event there is still a long way to go and the other contestants have not yet written them off.
Stockholm Inter-Zonal Tourney
Fischer and Petrosian were the only players to go through undefeated. Geller lost to Pomar and Cuellar, of Colombia.
