Curacaona, Netherlands Antilles —(AP)—Young Bobby Fischer of Brooklyn drew with Tigran Petrosian of the Soviet Union Friday in the sixth round of the Candidates Chess Tournament.
The round robin among eight grand masters is designed to pick a challenger for world champion Mikhail Botvinnik of Russia.
Petrosian played the Samisch variation against Fischer's Kings Indian defense. The Russian obtained superior mobility but Fischer's defense was adequate to hold him.
The second U.S. representative, Paul Benko of New York, lost in 28 moves to Russia's Paul Keres, the tournament leader.
Keres tops of the standings with a 4-2 record, followed by Ewfim Geller of Russia, 3½-2½; Victor Korchnoi of Russia, 3-2; Petrosian, 3-2; Benko 2½-2½ Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia, 2-3; Fischer, 2-4, and Mikhail Tal of Russia 2-4.
