Soviet Union's Keres Leads In Chess Event
Willemstad, Curacao (UPI)—Paul Keres of the Soviet Union was leading Friday at the end of the sixth set of matches in the first round of the international chess tournament.
Keres, playing white, sacrificed a piece on the 10th move Thursday and came up with a very strong and complicated winning attack against the Sicilian Defense employed by Paul Benko of the United States.
Bobby Fischer of the United States used the king's Indian Defense and played to a draw with Tigran Petrosian of Russia in 25 moves.
