Varna (AP)—Bobby Fischer of Brooklyn scored the only U.S. victory yesterday in the match against Austria in the fifth Chess Olympics.
Austria won two matches and a fourth one was adjourned with Larry Evans of New York in a position to beat his Austrian foe and level the score.
Fischer defeated the Austrian grand master, Robatsch. One the 20th move.
Pal Benko of New York lost to Deuckstein and Donald Byrne of New York went down before Graffer.
Standings after three rounds had Yugoslavia first with a 6½ to 5½ score, followed by the United States (6-4-2). Austria was last with 3-6-3 (wins-losses-adjourned games).
