Fischer Retains His Lead In Chess
U.S. Ace Draws With Geller and Petrosian in Sweden
Bobby Fischer of New York gained a point in the world interzonal chess tournament at Stockholm yesterday when he drew two games, according to a report from Sweden. He leads the tourney with a score of 13½-3½.
First, Fischer halved the point with Tigran Petrosian of the Soviet Union without resuming play in their unfinished seventeenth-round match. Then he split the point with Ewfim Geller, another Soviet player, after fifty-two moves of a Sicilian defense.
Geller retained the runner-up position with a score of 12½-4½. In addition to his draw with Fischer, he drew with Gideon Barcza of Hungary in a hard-fought game, adjourned from the sixteenth round, that lasted eighty-two moves.
Dr. Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia, tied for third place at 11½-5½, drew with Istvan Bilek of Hungary in a Gruenfeld defense in fifty-three moves and then defeated Barcza.
Petrosian, in addition to his draw with Fischer, gained a point in his adjourned match with Arturo Pomar of Spain when Pomar resigned without further play.
