Stockholm (CP-AP)—Bobby Fischer, 18, of the United States remained at the top of the standings Sunday night in the world interzonal chess tournament.
The Brooklyn student and Efim Geller of Russia, second in the standings, adjourned their 18th-round game after 42 moves. The positions were about equal.
Fischer has 12½ points, one more than Geller.
Tigran Petrosian of Russia and Arturo Pomar of Spain, two of five players in a deadlock for third place with 10 points; adjourned their match after 40 moves.
Wolfgang Uhlmann of East Germany, also in the third-place deadlock, lost to India's Manuel Aaron.
The other two players in the five-way tie also had adjourned matches. Yugoslavia's Svetozar Gligoric and Leonid Stein of Russia, who has nine points, adjourned after 40 moves and Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia and Gideon Barcza of Hungary, with seven points, adjourned after 42 moves.
Winnipeg's Abe Yanofsky, far back in the standings with five points, and Miguel Cuellar of Colombia adjourned their match after 46 moves Cuellar has 3½ points.
