Fischer Gains the Upper Hand In Chess Match With Bisguier
Three games in the seventh round of the world interzonal chess tournament at Stockholm were decided last night during a five-hour session. All were drawn, according to a report from the Swedish capital. Eight other games were adjourned.
There was little change in the standing of the leaders. Dr. Miroslva Filip of Czechoslovakia and Bobby Fischer of the United States are still tied for first place with scores of 5—1, followed by Wolfgang Uhlmann, East Germany, 4½—1½, and Julio Bolbochan, Argentina, 4½—2½.
Fischer, a former United States champion, had the better position against Arthur B. Bisguier of New York yesterday when play ceased after forty moves.
Drawn games were recorded between Julio Bolbochan and Tigran Petrosian, Soviet Union, in an English opening lasting twenty-four moves, and between Mario Bertok, Yugoslavia, and Leonid Stein, Soviet Union, after twenty-one moves of a Ruy Lopez. The Indian player, Manuel Aaron, and Abe Yanofsky of Canada also halved the point in a Queen's Indian defense that last forty-two moves.
The following games were adjourned:
