Fischer and D. Byrne Win Against Swiss in Olympics
Varna, Bulgaria, Sept. 20—The United States team in the Chess Olympics here won two games against Switzerland last night and adjourned two other games. The Americans were expected to win the adjourned games also.
Bobby Fischer, playing White, won in 41 moves of a Sicilian defense, and Donald Byrne won on the Black side of a Sicilian defense. Pal Benko, had a superior position in an adjourned game, and Edmar Mednis had a winning position in an adjourned game.
A previously adjourned game from the United States Bulgarian match was lost by Robert Byrne.
