Uhlmann Is First In Swedish Chess
German Beats Olafsson and Stein—Fischer Second
Twelve games that had been adjourned from the seventh and eighth rounds of the world interzonal tournament were played off at Stockholm yesterday, according to a report received through Swedish news sources.
Completing two games, Wolfgang Uhlmann of East Germany increased his total to 6½—1½ and took first place. He defeated Fridrik Olafsson of Iceland and then won from Leonid Stein of the Soviet Union.
Eighteen-year-old Bobby Fischer of the United States outmaneuvered Arthur B. Bisguier of New York in their seventh-round game and placed second with a score of 6—1.
Dr. Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia gained half a point when he drew a hard-fought game with Ewfim Geller of the Soviet Union. The game lasted eighty moves. Filip dropped to third place with 5½—1½.
Pal Benko of the United States, fourth in the race with 5½—2½, defeated Eugenio German of Brazil in their seventh-round game.
Gaining 2 points by defeating M. Schweber of Argentina and Abe Yanofsky of Canada, Lajos Portisch of Hungary stands well at 5—3.
The adjourned games between Geller and Julio Bolbochan of Argentina and between Victor Korchnoi of the Soviet Union and Filip was postponed.
