Almost certain defeat faces Bobby Fischer, above, young Brooklyn chess whiz, in his second match with Victor Korchnoi of the Soviet Union. The two are playing in the Candidates Tournament at Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. Two errors put Fischer deep in a hole at the 46th move when the match was adjourned with Korchnoi having a rook and four pawns, Fischer a rook and a bishop. Playing the white side of the Sicilian defense, the American had much the better of the match in its early stages. “The things have a way of evening out.” Fischer said after he beat Korchnoi in the first match of the tournament. Two Russians, Paul Keres and Ewfim Geller, are tied for the lead.
