The opening rounds of the interzonal contained a preponderance of long games; Bobby Fischer set the fashion by his Capablanca-like technique of winning endings with only a minimal advantage.
In later rounds, the games have become shorter as the leaders play cautious grandmaster draws and the tail-enders are eaten up with quick brilliancies. Here are two of these miniatures:
