Willemstad, Curacao, June 27 (UPI)—Russia's Tigran Petrosian won the international chess tournament here last night, entitling him to a shot at Mikhail Botvinnik's world title early next year.
A 30-move draw with America's Bobby Fischer knocked Russia's Paul Keres out of the running last night and insured Petrosian's victory with 17½ points to Keres' 17.
Fischer finished fourth with 14 points. Paul Benko, the only other American contender, was sixth with 12 points.
Petrosian, a 33-year-old Armenian-born Russian grand master, plays chess in a positional style like that of the late A. Niemzowitsch, founder of what has come to be known as the hyper-modern school of play.
