Curacao, Dutch West Indies, May 6 (AP)—Grandmaster Paul Benko of New York crushed Mikhail Tal, former Russian world champion, in a key game of an international chess tournament today.
Tal, who now has lost three games in a row, resigned after 41 moves.
“I finally did it,” Benko said after the victory, his second in a row in the tournament. “It's the first time I've beaten him in five tries. It feels wonderful.”
Bobby Fischer and Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia adjourned their game today after 46 moves. They were even on the board.
