Keres Beats Benko In Chess At Curacao
Willemstad CuraƧao, May 10 — Paul Keres of the Soviet Union defeated Pal Benko of the United States in the sixth round of the Candidates' Chess Tournament. Keres won in 28 moves of a Sicilian Defense after a temporary sacrifice left Benko helpless.
Bobby Fischer, on the black side of a King's Indian Defense, drew with Tigran Petrosian of the Soviet Union in 25 moves. Fischer overcame an opening minor disadvantage to split the point.
Ewfim Geller and Mikhail Tal, both of the Soviet Union, drew a Sicilian Defense in 27 moves. Victor Korchnoi of the Soviet Union adjourned with Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia, after 41 moves of Cambridge Springs Defense. The Russian, having the white pieces, held an edge.
