Geller Defeats Bisguier In Chess
Fischer Holds Lead Despite Adjournment in Sweden
Ewfim Geller of the Soviet Union drew closer to Bobby Fischer of New York yesterday by defeating Arthur B. Bisguier of New York in the seventeenth round of the world interzonal tournament in Stockholm, according to a report from the Swedish capital.
Geller had the black side of a Ruy Lopez and outmaneuvered Bisguier in a rook-versus-bishop ending in thirty-seven moves.
Fischer conducted the white forces in a French defense against Tigran Petrosian, a former Soviet champion. After five hours, an ending was reached with a bishop against a knight with Fischer a pawn ahead. Forty-two moves were recorded.
Fischer's score remained 12½-2½. Geller now is 11½-3½.
