Geller Advances In Swedish Chess
Beats Bilek and Moves to Within 2 Points of Fischer
Ewfim Geller of the Soviet Union moved into second place behind Bobby Fischer of New York yesterday after sixteen rounds of the world interzonal chess tournament in Stockholm, according to a report from the Swedish capital.
In a Reti opening, Geller defeated Istvan Bilek of Hungary in sixty-two moves. Geller now has a 10½-3½ score. Fischer is 12½-2½.
Wolfgang Uhlmann of East Germany resigned in his sixteenth-round game with Rudolph Teschner of West Germany and dropped to a three-way-tie for third at 10—5 with Dr. Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia. Svetozar Gligoric of Yugoslavia and Tigran Petrosian of the Soviet Union.
