Bobby Fischer, USA, by virtue of victories over Mikhail Tal and Victor Korchnoi, USSR, has recovered some of the ground he lost in his bad start in the Candidates tourney at Willemstad, Curacao. He is now within a point of Ewfim Geller, USSR, the leader, and only half a point behind T. Petrosian, P. Keres and Korchnoi, USSR. He had his share of luck in his game with Korchnoi, when the latter a P ahead and a winning position, overlooked the loss of a R.
Some explanation for ex-world champion Mikhail Tal's showing is the report that he was ill about a month before the tourney started and has not fully recovered from the effects.
After the completion of the 14th round, the halfway mark, the players will take a five day holiday on St. Martin Island, also in the Lesser Antilles but about 500 miles away, in the region of Porto Rico. Control is divided between Holland and France.
