22 Will Compete In Swedish Chess
Fischer, Bisguier, Sherwin to Represent United States
The interzonal chess tournament, which leads to the world championship, is scheduled for Stockholm, Sweden, from Jan. 26 to March 8.
The total number of participants will be twenty-two, selected from the following zones:
West Europe, 3; Central Europe, 3; East Europe, 3; Soviet Union, 4; United States, 3; Canada, 1; Central America, 1; South America, 3; Asia: 1.
The United States will be represented by Bobby Fischer, Arthur B. Bisguier and James T. Sherwin.
The six players with the top scores will advance to the candidates' tournament, scheduled for May and June in Curacao, under the auspices of the Royal Dutch Chess League.
It will be limited to eight players. The other two places will be filled by Mikhail Tal of Latvia, a former world champion, and Paul Keres of Estonia, both of whom have been seeded.
