Bolbochan Wins Twice In Sweden
Argentine Player Ties Filip for Lead in Chess
Julio Bolbochan of Argentina won two adjourned games in the interzonal chess tournament at Stockholm, according to a report from Sweden yesterday, and tied Dr. Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia for first place. Both have scores of 3½—½.
Bolbochan first played Eugenia German of Brazil in their unfinished third-round game and won a King's Indian defense which had reached a knight ending after fifty-five moves.
Next, the Argentine master met Miguel Cuellar of Colombia. The game had been adjourned after forty moves. Upon resumption, the Colombian sacrificed the exchange and lost in fifty-five moves.
Bobby Fischer, a former United States champion, moved into third place in the standing with a 3—1 total. He defeated Lajos Portisch of Hungary on the white side of a Caro-Kann defense which lasted sixty-seven moves.
The two Soviet players, Leonid Stein and Victor Korchnoi, agreed to split the point in a hard-fought Sicilian defense, adjourned from the fourth round. Eighty-nine moves were recorded.
