Championship Chess 04 Mar 1962, Sun Express and News (San Antonio, Texas) Newspapers.comAfter sixteen rounds in the world interzonal chess tournament, Bobby Fischer of the United States is leading the field with 12½ points out of [illegible 15 or 16?].
The tournament, held in Stockholm, Sweden is becoming increasingly exciting, as the players prepare to come into the home stretch.
E. Geller of the Soviet Union moved into second place, defeating Istvan Bilek of Hungary in 62 moves.
His score is [illegible 10½-3½?], which means that if he wins the next game, he could move within one point of Fischer. Then, with seven rounds to play, anything could happen.
Petrosian and Korchnoi are contenders now, if not for first place, at least for a qualifying place among the top six. Their countryman, Stein, will probably not make it.
Fischer has yet to play many of the top players, including [illegible Cuellar or Geller?], Filip, Petrosian, Uhlmann, Korchnoi, Pomar, and Stein. His victory will be well earned.
