Curacao 20 May 1962, Sun The Boston Globe (Boston, Massachusetts) Newspapers.com“Meanwhile, at Curacao, eight pretty good chess players are battling for a crack at World Champion Botvinnik. Bobby Fischer has not yet recovered from his poor start (3 losses in his first six games). He stands now near the bottom with 2-4 and one adjourned (against Keres — a likely win for Fischer). Tal, the other favorite, is a little worse off, he has 3-4 and none adjourned.
According to reports, Fischer's bad start has been blamed on illness (a bad appendix) and psychological letdown (i.e., loss of the first game in this tournament after having been undefeated in two previous outings.)
Viktor Korchnoi and Paul Keres lead with 4-2. However Keres hold on first is tenuous, vide, the above-mentioned game with Fischer.
