4 Games Adjourned In Chess At Curacao
Willemstad, Curacao, May 24—All four games of the thirteenth-round of the Candidates' Chess Tournament were adjourned yesterday.
Bobby Fischer of the United States and Tigran Petrosian of the Soviet Union suspended play in a McCutcheon Variation of the French Defense after forty-three moves. Fischer was down two pawns in a rook-and-pawns ending and other of his pawns were vulnerable. He was expected to lose.
In a Nimzo-Indian Defense between Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia and Victor Korchnoi of the Soviet Union, Korchnoi was ahead after forty-three moves. The Czech was behind a pawn in a queen ending.
Mikhail Tal of the Soviet Union, former world champion, adjourned an Irregular Queen's Pawn Game with his countryman Ewfim Geller after forty-two moves. In a queen-and-bishop ending, he is two pawns minus.
Pal Benko of the United States and Paul Keres of the Soviet Union adjourned an Irregular Opening, which transposed to a Vienna Game. After forty-one moves, Benko was down a pawn and will likely lose the rook-and-knight ending.
