3 Chess Games Finished, 1 Put Off, in Willemstad
Willemstad, CuraƧao, June 14—Three games were finished and one postponed in the twenty-second round of the Candidates' Chess Tournament here today. Bobby Fischer defeated Pal Benko, both of the United States, in thirty-one moves in a French Defense. Fischer sacrificed a piece and concluded with a forced checkmate.
Ewfim Geller and Victor Korchnoi, both of the Soviet Union, drew a Queen's Gambit Accepted in thirty moves. Geller sacrificed two pawns and later recovered his material to equalize the position. Dr. Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia held Paul Keres of the Soviet Union to a draw in thirty-eight moves of a Nimzo-Indian Defense.
The game between Mikhail Tal and Tigran Petrosian, both of the Soviet Union, was postponed because Tal was ill in a hospital.
