Headquarters (Stanley Rader and co.), went into damage control when they learned of the interview. What is known, is Fischer was reported as becoming fearful, like he was being spied on.. then completely changed his mind about the interview -- why soon became apparent as Fischer was manipulated into a lawsuit by cult lawyer, Stanley Rader & co) issued demand that AR not publish the interview and a lawsuit issued in Fischer's name, for around 3 million (I strongly suspect Rader had control of Bobby's mind -- just as he had control of his finances, and directing the chain of events that followed, see https://hwarmstrong.com/ar/Pawn.html) -- claiming breech of privacy. These events were in the contemporary public newspapers -attributing Fischer's interviews and accusations against Herbert Armstrong's church with abuse of followers - Fischer's interview with dissidents did actual damage to Herbert Armstrong's cult empire's power & influence, because Fischer was a celebrity. Rader pressuring Fischer to demand AR not go to press with the interview, didn't change the course of events -- Ambassador Report published the story, anyway, deliberately. All that was left then for Stanley Rader to do, was figure out the way to discredit Bobby ... it was all soon turned around, that Bobby Fischer was charged by a woman, accusing him of 'striking' her and suing... it was in the newspapers that a warrant had been issued for Fischer's arrest... what a mess! The charges were dropped, all the woman wanted was money. And the double backstab was, after Rader manipulated Fischer into lending his name to the proposed lawsuit -- Rader pulled out and left Fischer holding the bag -- no legal team. At the end of the drama... Herbert and Stanley Rader slithered away to business as usual, and the AR about 5K richer with what remained of Fischer's prize money from 1972. Bobby Fischer was forced to pay the price for everyone's greed in both name and reputation when, initially, as he said, he was simply trying to help protect other people (like myself) from being ripped off mentally... he was not seen in professional chess again, till 1992... angry, bitter, enraged.
