Yugoslavia Defeats U.S., Takes 2d Place in Chess
Varna, Bulgaria, Oct. 10 (AP)—Yugoslavia completed a 3-1 triumph over the United States in the 15th Chess Olympics today. As a result, Yugoslavia won second place and the Americans skidded to fourth in the final standings.
The Soviet Union won the tournament with 31½ points, followed by Yugoslavia 28, Argentina 26 and the United States 25.
Bobby Fischer, the young grand master from Brooklyn, conceded defeat today against Svetozar Gligoric of Yugoslavia without resuming play. Robert Byrne of New York was beaten by O.M. Ivkov.
