Uhlmann, Geller Adjourn In Chess
Filip Defeats Bolbochan and Takes 2d—Fischer is 3d
Wolfgang Uhlmann of East Germany, leading in the world interzonal chess tournament at Stockholm with a score of 7—2, adjourned his game with Ewfim Geller of the Soviet Union in the tenth round yesterday, according to a report from Sweden.
Uhlmann, with the black pieces, set up a King's Indian defense, but Geller was at his best and care was required for the defense. Under great time pressure, the German stood up well. At the end of the five-hour session the position was even. Forty moves were recorded.
Dr. Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia moved into second place, half a point behind the leader.
The Czech grandmaster conducted the white forces in a King's Indian defense against Julio Bolbochan of Argentina. Dr. Filip won the exchange and the Argentinian resigned after forty-three moves.
Bobby Fischer of the United States, in third place, was pitted against Svetozar Gligoric of Yugoslavia. The match was adjourned after forty-one moves. Gligoric had two pawns to Fischer's one in a rook ending.
Lajos Portisch of Hungary defeated Miguel Cuellar of Colombia in a King's Indian defense lasting fifty-one moves.
The other two victors yesterday were Fridrik Olafsson of Iceland, and Istvan Bilek of Hungary. The Icelander won from Manuel Aaron of India after twenty-one moves of a Sicilian defense. The Hungarian beat Eugenio German of Brazil when the latter overstepped the time limit in a Sicilian defense that went to thirty-nine moves.
Arthur B. Bisguier of New York drew an uneventful game with M. Schweber of Argentina in a Catalan opening that lasted twenty-one moves.
