Two Still Are Tied In Chess Leadership
Willemstad, CuraƧao, June 5—Two games were finished and two adjourned in the seventeenth round of the Candidates' Chess Tournament.
Tigran Petrosian and Ewfim Geller, both of the Soviet Union, drew a Tartakover variation of the Queen's Gambit in sixteen moves. Pal Benko of the United States and Mikhail Tal of the Soviet Union drew an English opening, by transposition, in thirty-four moves.
Paul Keres and Victor Korchnoi, both of the Soviet Union, adjourned a Sicilian defense after forty-one moves. Keres has an extra pawn and good chances to win.
Bobby Fischer of the United States adjourned a Ruy Lopez, Steinitz deferred variation, with Dr. Miroslav Filip after forty-three moves. While material is even, Fischer has a great positional advantage that may be resolved by a checkmate.
