Willemstad, Curacao (CP) Victor Korchnoi of Russia defeated countryman Mikhail Tal in 35 moves Saturday night to tie for the lead after seven rounds in the candidates chess tournament.
Korchnoi moved into a tie with Paul Keres of Russia whose seventh-round game with Bobby Fischer of the United States was adjourned after 41 moves with Fischer a pawn ahead.
Tigran Petrosian of Russia drew with Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia in 14 moves.
Ewfim Geller of Russia and Pal Benko of the United States adjourned their match with Benko having a slight advantage.
