With the final round still to be played, Bobby Fischer of Brooklyn has more than enough margin to clinch first prize in the interzonal tournament in Stockholm, according to a New York Times report.
Fischer has won 13 games and drawn eight for a score of 17-4. His closest contender is Ewfim Geller of Soviet Union, who has 14½-6½, with 10 wins, nine draws and losses to Miguel Cuellar of Colombia and Arturo Pomar of Spain.
Fischer achieved a plus score against the four Russian grandmasters, whom he met in successive rounds. He defeated Victor Korchnoi and drew with Leonid Stein, Tigran Petrosian and Geller.
In his latest three rounds Fischer drew with Miroslav Filip of Czechoslovakia, then scored against Julio Bolbochan of Argentina and Mario Bertok of Yugoslavia. His final opponent is Wolfgang Uhlmann of East Germany.
Petrosian, who has 13½-6½ and the advantage in an adjourned game with Eugenio German of Brazil, may tie for second place with Geller. Other leaders, besides the Soviet group, are Filip, 13-7, and Svetozar Gligoric of Yugoslavia, 13-8.
Pal Benko of New York may move up considerably in the standing should he succeed in two adjourned games with Lajos Portisch and Istvan Bilek, both of Hungary. In the last round Benko will face still another Hungarian, Gideon Barcza.
Arthur B. Bisguier of New York is settled in the second division, with no hope of advancement. In last week's play he drew four games in succession, then lost to Uhlmann. His final opponent is Rudolph Teschner of West Germany.
Following is the standing after 22 rounds, with several games still adjourned, and games from the tournament.
