Collusive Tactics Alleged 26 Aug 1962, Sun The Boston Globe (Boston, Massachusetts) Newspapers.comBobby Fischer, former U.S. champion and described as the greatest natural chess player of all time, has accused the Russian chess players of using “collusive tactics” at Curacao. In a magazine article Fischer stated that the top three Russians (Petrosian, Keres, and Geller) drew their games with each other sometimes in as few as 11 moves. Meanwhile, back at the tournament Fischer struggled doubly hard when he played a Russian because they devoted most of their attention to him.
Here is a Russian at Curacao in a fighting mood: his opponent is a non-Russian, Pal Benko of New York, formerly of Hungary.

Al Horowitz, editor of Chess Review, infuriated many subscribers when he hinted at the Fischer conclusions. Chess-players reacted as though “fix” charges had been made. Not so. This is basically ethical.
