WITH A COUPLE of postponed games pending, Bobby Fischer had a score of 6 to 1 in the Stockholm Interzonal Tournament. While he was slightly behind in the “won” column, he had the best score in the all-important “lost” column. Of the other two entries from the United States, Pal Benko was doing reasonably well but Arthur Bisguier was farther down in the standings.
Previous to the interzonal event, Bisguier took part in a tournament in Beverwijk, Holland, tying for fourth position with 5 to 4. The event was won by Dr. Peter Trifunovic of Yugoslavia with a 6 to 3 record.
In another tourney held in Stockholm prior to the interzonal, world champion Mikhail Botvinnik captured first place with 8½ to ½. His only draw came with fellow USSR grandmaster Salo Flohr who tied for second position three full points behind the winner.
